About the class

Process Discovery is an integrated approach to fully defining and documenting an enterprise’s core business processes. By combining techniques of process modeling, mapping and analysis, the team will discover the details of “what” the organization does and nuances of “how” the organization creates value for its customer.

Process Discovery (Process Modeling, Mapping and Analysis) is a critical step in the “Measure” stage of the Lean Six Sigma DMAIC methodology as well as the “Establish the As-Is Baseline” stage of Business Process Reengineering (BPR). These techniques are used to not only document the baseline process activities, but also to document the flow of information through those activities.

Who Should Attend:

This workshop is designed to provide the student an overview of how Process/Activity Modeling is applied to an organization as part of any process improvement effort, including Lean, Six Sigma, and Business Process Reengineering (BPR). Process/Activity Modeling (Process Discovery) is a critical step in the “Measure” phase of the DMAIC methodology as well as the “Establish the As-Is Baseline” stage of BPR. These techniques are used to not only document the baseline process activities, but also to document the flow of information through the activities. The workshop provides a solid foundation for anyone involved in, or interested in, the design, implementation, or application of Process/Activity Modeling during a Lean, Six Sigma, or reengineering project.

How You Will Benefit:

  • Proven, hands-on, blended approach to learning (with many group discussions, exercises, and case studies) that includes classroom participation and the use of Mountain Home’s Student Resource Center (SRC) online resources.

  • Latest on process modeling and analysis trends, concepts, and implementation strategies.

  • Apply a proven, structured approach to documenting and analyzing “What” the organization does to create customer value and “How” they do it.

  • Up-to-date reference/course materials

  • Presenters with actual experience in the area of Process Reengineering, Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma process analysis, and business process management as well as having experience managing large enterprise-wide cross-functional Transformation projects.

What You Will Cover:

  • Learn how to model core business processes of an organization using the IDEF0 technique.

  • Learn how Process/Activity Modeling provides a Cross-functional view of a process, enabling a more detailed and effective analysis of critical performance “micro-gaps” which may not be readily seen with other activity flow charting techniques.

  • Learn basic process analysis techniques, including Value Added Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, and “Activity TouchPoint Analysis™”.
